The Matrix Online decompiles

Reminder: Check out The Matrix Online before it decompiles - Massively: "The Matrix Online is reminding us all that it's slowing coming undone as the system becomes more and more unstable with each passing day. Ashes raining from the sky, eyes being seen in the clouds, zombies, agents, angels, and demons all appearing out of the system's corruption to wreak havoc across the Mega City."

Oh! What a fine way to go out ... fighting!

The company will provide users with instructions on how to migrate to Google Reader."

Whoa! Feadreaders are dead? Is it all just a Twitter river of what I had for lunch now?

Bloomberg.com: Worldwide: "Muzak Holdings LLC, the company that made “elevator music” famous, sought bankruptcy protection from creditors as its debt matured and restructuring alternatives fell through due to the economic crisis."

Whoa, Surreal. Now who do you buy your hold music from?

LiveJournal on Life Support

Report: LiveJournal on Life Support: "The company has reportedly laid off 20 of 28 employees, “leaving only a handful of finance and operations workers.”"

Even with paid accounts and plenty of advertising? Weird.

Stacey's Demise

Stacey's Demise - SFist: San Francisco: "Venerable Stacey's Books, after celebrating 85 years in business this last fall, announced to staff today that the store will close sometime in late March."

SF can't sustain an excellent bookstore downtown? Bah!

Tribe deal

Mark Pincus Blog: Tribe deal: "tah Street Networks and New Systems Associates today entered into an operating agreement to manage Tribe.net (http://www.tribe.net), add competitive social networking features to the site, and revitalize the Tribe community.

New Systems Associates is an LLC formed by long-time Tribe members who believe in protecting and expanding Tribe's unique culture."

Huh, guess they're keeping the lights on. Doesn't seem like anyone's home, though. Guess the hive from Tribe is still kicking, as well ...

FindMeOn.com : Intellectual Property Announcement

FindMeOn.com Blog: "As one-of the earliest, if not the first, entity dedicated to Social Network Portability, FindMeOn.com pioneered many of the systems, methods, and techniques now common to online identity indexing, standardizing, searching and porting."

Oh, great. In the deadpool and evil to boot. They should at least get the service up if they want to dibs on the obvious.

minglenow

the making of minglenow: "Thank you in helping making MingleNow the leading nightlife community website over the last year. But even good things come to an end, and due to many factors we have decided to close MingleNow.com."

TechCrunch saith: "We assume that Yahoo simply isn’t interested in maintaining another social network, especially since its purchase of BlueLithium was for its ad network"

Funny, I was going to swap my reg to a more active eddress and put it in the cycle. There certainly are a glut of event sites ...

Going.com Lands $5 million

Going.com Lands $5 million: "Event based social network Going.com has taken an additional $5 million in funding, in a round led by the sites original investors General Catalyst Partners and Highland Capital Partners."

Socialize and Buy Event Tickets: "promoters that would like to push an event and sell tickets at the same time can do so on Going. It takes Going in the direction of becoming a one-stop shop, for promoters and end users."

All that, and a Facebook App too!

Eh, There's no there there. Few events. Horrible navigation. Poor search. I log in every few weeks pulled via the facebook app to update the feed. I can't see them making a go of it.

Dodgeball Left for Dead: Twitter Victorious: "Dodgeball, the text-message based social networking service, seems to have been left for dead."

Funny, Dodgeball's been on my signup list for so long that everyone's gone web only. Ah, well, guess it's time for the shiney new Twitter account.

Death2.0

DEATHWATCH: The new year roundup - Valleywag: "A couple of key execs have left Wallop, the social network"

Yeash, one of the ugliest social networks ever. Although, one of those that requires download like Mugshot might be even more horrid.

"Tagworld's founders haven't logged into their social network site for a month, and are said to be both "out of town". The problems at Tagworld serve as a reminder: in the competition between social network sites, it's winner takes all. And there are few winners."

Oh, yea, Tagworld! Gotta track down my login one of these weeks ...

Relevanta

Digging though the bookmark tags and noted that Relevanta was gone ... the site now says "Please visit Pokkari." I enjoyed the reputation system, just didn't have many playmates over there nor much interest in the political feeds underlying it.

Tracked down an old post. Reputation-based System for the Blogosphere: "All members of the Relevanta community have the ability to contribute information, commentary, and valuations of both the authors and their written works. In addition, Relevanta's underlying database provides automatic linking of keywords and provides members with extended data and background information…"
